LUST

A forest without an end or beginning, full of trees we have never seen before and eruptions of flowers burning with colour. A heavy mist falls from rocky escarpments, silently smothering life-filled crevices. Round pearls of dew lie on flat, rubbery leaves, dripping and shining behind a veil of light golden haze. Faint stirring and shaking, rustling and snapping, a symphony of insects buzzing and tides of earthy musk. Succulent leaves reflect dusty rays of sun. Furry bushes bow down with wetness, lingering above the spongy soil. And all the while the heavy sky spans from horizon to horizon, blanketing the sea of green.

Stolen glances charm us on our way through this jungle. We forage through thick undergrowth in pursuit of the colourful butterfly that dashes lazily from petal to twig, bathing in pools of sweet nectar.

Fruit surrounds us, bursting with ripeness, so that one has but to grasp at it with no more than a light touch, and it releases into expecting hands. We are not hungry, but eat the fruit with an appetite for pleasure. We take our time, pause briefly to wonder, then meander on through the day. We enjoy every surprise from behind the lush thickets of leaves, fascinated by everything that accidentally appears. We pick flowers, arrange them into bouquets and instantly let them fall, eager to pick new ones. We collect for the pure enjoyment of collection. Every glimpse unravels a smaller truth.

Brave to follow our enticement deeper into the jungle, we left no signs that could lead our way back, took no map to reveal the way forward. Believing to know the right direction, we follow countless paths, get caught in tendrils, and scrape our knees from time to time. Though we might change direction, we always follow the right course, knowing that we will encounter new delights.

With a spring in our step we walk through the forest of trees. As we do not know where we want to go, we are never disappointed by where we arrive.

And we cannot miss anything if we do not question where we come from, and feel comfortable in places we are not at home in.
