A circle with a 30-meter diameter and
a pair of VR-goggles are enough to
create the illusion of walking endlessly
on a straight line. Any language, as a limited coordinate system of meanings,
can expand the world in a similar way.
In this case, difference is the measuring
method and unit of perception: we believe
we can perceive by contrasts. However,
with category and definition, ambivalence
and subversion emerge.
Since the alien as a category is inevitably
an accomplice of exclusion and appropriation, we have decided to set the focus
of this issue on its practical potential:
away from the perception of «aliens» and
towards an instrumentalized alienation.
Existent cartographies can be reinterpreted. A new space of action is waiting to be claimed. The alien points towards
a different reality beyond the tradi-
tional, fixed principles that seem to define
our world.
